Flowers and a building.

VERY vibrant color! (too bad i cut off the top :( )

Here are some more flower pics I took, and they were all found in my mom's garden! That building is an old power station (Sumas Substation) that was built in the early 1900's when the railways were becoming prominent in the Fraser Valley (southern BC for those of you who don't know).

Beautiful sights in the morning

Morning dew

This morning, after I went for a run, I just had to capture these images...and in the least likely of places - my front yard. I'm happy with these two pics though, enjoy!

UBC Symphony Orchestra concert, and a trip to Bellingham, WA.

Some cool lighting above the stage.
Nice view of the Chan Centre

Well, it's been a while since I posted some pics, but here are a few from the past weekend. First up, myself and some friends went to the UBC Sypmphony Orchestra on Friday night, where they performed some really amazing pieces, which included the following:

Russian Easter Overture
(on Sacred Russian Themes), OP. 36
Nikokai Rimsky-Korsakoff

Rapsodie on a Theme of Paganini, O. 43
Sergei Rachmaninoff

Symphony No. 6 in D major, Op. 60
Antonin Dvor¡k

Overall, an awesome experience. The Chan Centre on the UBC campus is amazing...apparently the finest acoustics in all of Canada. And just this Monday, I was down in Bellingham with my family, we also went to Deception Pass (just a little south of Berlington, Washington), and we hiked around the huge bridge there. Enjoy!

Muse concert (second one of the year!)

Some dude had a crazy mullet...had to nab a pic!
That really bright light on stage...that was Bellamy's keyboard!
Matthew Bellamy on the keyboard, a little blurry though...

Well it's always really awesome when you can see Muse, quite possibly one of my favourite bands, twice within a 6 month period. The second show was UNBELIEVABLE, and I'd say much better than their previous show (back on May 11th). This show was a week and a half ago by the way, on September 24th. Even though the show was better, unfortunately my pictures weren't AS good as their show back in May. Regardless, here they are, and enjoy! Here is also the setlist of the concert:

Intro
Apocalypse Please
Hysteria
New born
The Small Print (TSP)
Sing For Absolution
Ruled By Secrecy
Citizen Erased
Sunbrun
Muscle Museum
Bliss
Butterflies And Hurricanes
Heartbreaker by Led Zeppelin (!!!) as an intro to
Time Is Running Out
Plug In Baby

Encore:
Dead Star
Stockholm Syndrome

I also got like 5 mediocre videos with my digital camera. I'll post up links for those once I find a site where I can host them.

(please forgive the bluriness of some of these pictures, it's insanely difficult to hold the camera still with the flash off and the longer shutter speed as a result).

A concert packed weekend.

Thin Lizzy
Lead singer for Thin Lizzy...what a guy
Ian Gillan, Deep Purple's lead singer
View all 24 photos...
Well, on Saturday night, the 11th, I went with my brothers and my dad to go see Deep Purple at the Orpheum theatre in Vancouver. The band Thin Lizzy ("The Boys Are Back in Town") opened, and they were actually really sweet. They're more of a late 70's, 80's style metal band, with some wicked guitar riffs and solos. Deep Purple themselves were awesome. They put on quite a show, playing a lot of their newer stuff first, but then later playing their older stuff, which I'm more familiar with. Overall, a pretty awesome concert, I had good seating - 2nd row of the balcony. On to concert 2.

Blindside, quite possibly one of my favourite bands, came to Vancouver on Sept. 13th. I went and saw them back in June when they were here with P.O.D., and back then they put on a pretty sweet show. I'd say that this show was even better. The opening bands (The Kick and Me Without You) were pretty decent musically, although The Kick was without their electric guitars because of some mishap on the road, and the Me Without You lead singer was a little strange, just talking loudly (sometimes yelling) more than singing, which didn't suit the style of music all that well. When Blindside came out, that's when the show started up. This time they were playing in the smaller ball room at Croatian Cultural Center, and I'd say there were maybe 500-600 people, resulting in some really close up pics. They played some of their older stuff off of A Thought Crushed My Mind ("King of the Closet" was a real highlight), as well as an even amount of stuff off of Silence and About A Burning Fire. The guys really put their heart and soul into their performance, and it showed. Afterwards, my friends and I hung around again, and sure enough, Christian (the lead singer), Tomas (the bassist), and Marcus (the drummer) were hanging around, so we got to chat with them for a while, which was really awesome. Didn't take any pics of that though since I have some pics of me with them from last time. Anyways, long enough description, enjoy the pics (sucks that some of the were so blurry, stupid slow shutter speed when I turn the flash off )

Oh ya, can't forget the setlist for Blindside:

1. Eye of the Storm
2. Pitiful
3. Follow You Down
4. Caught a Glimpse
5. All of Us
6. Skekina
7. Sleepwalking
8. Cute Boring Love
9. Swallow
10. About a Burning Fire (INTENSE live!)

A few Bike pics

Ain't she a beaut?

This is my current ride, which I think I'm FINALLY done upgrading for now. It's a '02 Giant AC1 with 6" of travel in the rear, with 2002 Marzocchi Jr. T's on the front (7" of travel), Hayes Mechanical disc brakes (6" rotors), Azonic crankset, with Asylum Bikes bash ring. 2.8" Nokian Gazzaloddi front tire, running a 2.35" on the rear. Shimano Deore XT derailleurs, Specialized riser bars, Azonic stem...I think that covers mostly everying. I'll post up some more pics of me riding in the near future!

2nd Annual Oregon Road Trip!!!

Jesse Dawes, a crazy, crazy guy...
AJ loves his Hot Tamales, but the box is upside down dude...
Jesse yelling into the radio the # of Denny's on the way down
View all 44 photos...
Well, just over a year after the last one, a bunch of us guys (12 in total, double that of last years numbers) drove down to Florence, Oregon, right on the coast there where all the HUGE sand dunes are. There's surfing, body boarding, sand boarding, swimming, and tanning to be had down there on the numerous beaches, lakes, and massive sand dunes. We were gone for about 2 nights, leaving Saturday morning at 3am, and arriving back home at around 6pm on Monday - 18hrs. total driving. On the way down, we counted 18 Denny's restaurants just off of the highway. Our conclusion: Americans love their Denny's. Overall, it was a BLAST, just loads of fun, and some whacky and crazy moments with all the guys, what with inside jokes and some crazy personalities. Definitely an awesome road trip, with lots of good memories. Enjoy the pics.

A day in Vancouver's Lynn Canyon and a Sushi joint

A view from the Lynn Canyon suspension bridge

nice, lush B.C. rainforest

This past Sunday, August 22, my family and I (along with some visiting relatives) went to Lynn Canyon in Vancouver. It was nice to go out and do a little hike, get some fresh air...afterwards we hit up a small sushi joint on Broadway. It was alright, but I would eat other things over sushi if I were alone, starving, and stranded on a small island in the middle of the ocean...ok, that was random..I also got my new 4th gen 40GB iPod today, YAY!

More Airshow pics!

View all 25 photos...
Ok, well since I didn't have my fotopages up and running a year ago, I felt like posting some pictures (more like lots of pictures) from last year, the 2003 Abbotsford International Airshow. Last year there were WAY more military performers, including the US Navy's Blue Angels. The last chunk of pics were taken on the day after the airshow weekend was over, when all the planes leave early Monday morning. They take off the runway that goes towards a main road right at the end of the runway, so they literally fly right over top of you (that one close up of the F-14 was literally about 50 feet abover our heads!). Anyways, it's quite an experience. Enjoy!
